One of the largest libraries in the country in terms of number of volumes held, the Cornell University Library system has approximately 8 million printed volumes, 8.5 million microfiches and microfilms, over 71,000 cubic feet of manuscripts, and nearly 500,000 other materials, such as DVDs, motion pictures, and sound recordings. Seventeen libraries are found on the Ithaca Campus, and many feature ornate woodwork and architectural design. For example, the Cornell Law Library, which has 700,000 books and microforms, has a beautiful cathedral ceiling.
Other important libraries in the Cornell University Library system include the John M. Olin Library, which specializes in social sciences and humanities; the Albert R. Mann Library, which offers materials on human ecology, the life sciences, and agriculture; the Harold D. Uris Library, which focuses on social sciences and humanities holdings; and the Carl M. Kroch Library, which houses the Cornell University Rare & Manuscript Collections.
